“Would You Wait?” by Parker Coyne

Would you wait for me?
Five more minutes
While I fought with the curling iron
Feeling unattractive
And no longer wanting to go out
Would you wait?

Would you on my bad days
When everything is too heavy
And I can’t get out of bed
Would you wait?

Would you while I figure out if I’m ready
To give my heart to you
My soul to someone new
When I promised I wouldn’t
Ever
Again
Would you wait?

Would you while I fight the tears
To try and explain how I’m feeling
To open up without attacking you
To express myself without lashing out
And need the extra silence
While I sort through my demons
Would you wait?

Would you on my best days
When I can’t seem to make time for anything else
And the sun radiates love
That only I can feel
And maybe I leave you in the shade
Feeling forgotten
Would you wait?

Would you while I figure out who I am
Not knowing what to give you
Until I can find myself first
No matter how long that takes
Would you wait?

Would you while I ask for everything
Unfair time limits
And unrealistic expectations
The sun, the moon, and stars
While promising to some day give you the same
Would you wait?

And if you could spare the time,
Would you wait with me?
Just a little while longer.
