“Moon Haiku” by Joshua St. Claire

distant shore
a hermit crab enters
the crescent moon

not saying
what doesn’t need to be said
Brushstroke Moon

day moon
the headwaters of the Susquehanna
frozen solid

moon city
snow rising
around three spruces

wakerobin moon
the whitegreen of roots
shifting the dark

the blue of the mountains in the shadow of the moonflower

cirrus moon
all motion
caught in the frost

mountain silhouette
the sliver moon
en pointe

first cigarette
a boy blows out
the waning moon

yes,
but also full of moonlight
snowfield
