“Finding the Rainbow” by Arvilla Fee

I hold the sun in one hand,
hold raindrops in the other—
for if I can carry both,
I will find the rainbow.

And there you’ll be—bright
brown eyes and wagging tail,
my sweet boy who filled my
life with endless joy.

I’ll hold you in my arms,
bury my face in your soft fur,
tell you how much I’ve missed
our walks and naps and car rides.

I hold the sun in one hand,
hold raindrops in the other—
but the rainbow slips through
my fingers, multicolored tears.
